WHERE IS BURKINA FASO
Circumscribed by the Niger Arc and linked to the Golf of Guinea by
the vast Volta River, Burkina Faso,
the Land of Honest People is situated in the heart of the Western
part of
Africa. With 274,200km2 the country is surrounded by five
countries: Ivory Cost,
Ghana,Togo,Benin(Southern part),Niger,Mali(Northern part).
RELIEF AND HYDROGRAPHY
The relief of
Burkina Faso comprises a succession of gentle hills and small
valleys.
Several
larges rivers and lakes(lakes Mouhoun, Nakambe,Bam, Tengrela)
provide the country with freshness .
POPULATION
With 13
millions inhabitants living in a country half the size of France,
the Land of Honest People( translation of Burkina Faso) is proud to
be a peaceful land for the sixty ethnic groups living in total
harmony. The main groups are:Mossi ( the largest) in the central
part,Dioula (South), Peuls(North) Dagara,(South-west),

CLIMATE AND TEMPERATURES
Burkina
Faso´s latitudinal(between 9°N and 15° N) and continental
position influences the country´s climate making it Soudano-Sahelian
climate.
Seasons are
characterised by the alternation of a dry season(from October to
June) and a raing season (from July to September with August as the
peak season).
Temperatures
are between 10° to 40° with March -April as the hottest and December
and January as the coolest months. |

TOURISM
Burkina
Faso is undoubtly a sanctuaire of wild animals, a
paradise for Safari visions and hunting(official hunting season:
from November to March).
The National
Parks(Arly, W,Tambi Kaboré) are flourished with gazelles, leopards,
impalas, buffon kobs, lionsand elephants.
Pitturesques and
beautiful landscapes,
domes
(Sindou)and waterfalls (Comoé,Karfiguela) in the south,
lakes(Tingrela; Bam),pools frequented by all sorts of
animals:hippopotami, birds and crocodiles ( Sabou) offer to the
visitor the feeling of a real paradise in the heart of the west

ARTS
AND CULTURE
Beautiful
and unique wooden masks,
flourishing crafts with creative designs,
renowed
potery and basketery and bronze statuettes are linked to the image
of the country and are not yet been supplanted.
Various
music using traditionnal instruments like whistles, Balafon (kind of
piano), drums and dances accompany the Burkinabe (People from
Burkina Faso)in their daily life and during exceptionnal events or
festival such as The Festival of music and Dance(SNC)
Well-known for its cultural events such as
FESPACO(Panafrican Film festival),
SIAO (International Handicraft Salon) attracting tourists from
all over the world.

Burkina Faso has an extremely
rich and varied cultural heritage.
Life styles, activities,
festivities, costumes, craft objects, baskets, brozes statues,
pottery and costumes have unexpectedly stricking specificities from
one region to the next.

village of LAONGO
- The museum of masks in
Manega, few kilometers north of the capital city Ouagadougou.
